Indigo ? Let's go !
Indigo is a deep and vibrant blue shade, part of the 7 colors of the rainbow (between the blue and the purple). The natural indigo colors is made from the plant “Indigofera” which is cultivated in the warm regions of Asia, but also in America and Africa. In Vietnam, the Indigo is mainly used to dye fabrics in blue while in India the Indigo is largely used to paint walls.
In North Vietnam, the Black Hmong ethnic minority still uses this organic dye to color fabrics used for making the traditional outfit. The main piece of the outfit is a jacket weaved with hemp with sleeves made of handmade embroideries. The jacket matches elegantly the skirt which is dyed in indigo and bee wax. The outfit of the black Hmong is probably one of the most sophisticated among all the many ethnic minorities of the country. It is easy to identify a lady from the Black Hmong community as their fingers are deeply stained with the dye.
Jodhpur, the Blue City of India, offers a fantastic sightseeing of blue shades on all its walls. Up from the rooftop of the Mehrangarh palace, one can appreciate this magnificent view on the city. The color blue is associated to the god Shiva which is one of the most popular God of the Hindu religion. The deep blue color on house walls also has the practical property of isolating houses from the heat."
